Selin, is a perfect friend and an amazing person. Due to our studies abroad we were seeing each other occasionally during holidays. What's more she is a good teammate. We have really good memories in this beautiful house mostly after our nights out coming home and playing Trivial Pursuit in the summers.

The black armchairs used to belong to her grandmother, and the candles are from a small store in Le Marais, Paris where she used to work before moving to her homeland, Istanbul. With its checherboard marble tiles, entrance is one of my favorite parts of the house.

She bought this purple YSL bag from New York and the rug it sits on is a purchase from Machu Picchu, Peru. From the time she volunteered in an orphanage.

This is a scratch-off map that Selin purchased from Singapore. She though its a cute way of keeping track of her travels, her sister also has one.

Selin loves to travel and she has many souvenirs in her room from the places she visited. The boomerang she recently got from Gold Coast, Australia, the Tumbi sculpture and hand crafted mini-notebooks she bought from Cusco, Peru, the Buddha sculpture from Bangkok, Thailand and a hardcover book from Singapore.

Although the living room generally has a Scandinavian effect with its colors, I noticed a few objects like this hand made Ottoman Iron Curtain that create a cozy Bosphorus house feeling. This was designed by her mother and Armenian craftsman made.

You can see the candles reflections seem endless.

Alika is a lucky one and a half year old girl. She lives in this beautiful house and she is the darling of her parents.

Cookies made for her by her grandmother have her name on them.

Her mother started buying things for her as soon as she learned that she is pregnant for her, such as these Christian Dior Barbie Doll. Doll is dressed in classic Christian Dior post-war fashion. She has a silk taupe blouse, a pleated organdy black skirt, black stockings with garters, black panties, a straw hat, black pumps, long black gloves, and a pearl necklace.

These Yves Saint Laurent colouring books are amazing. I personally added them to my wishlist.

Also look at this pop-up book with Alice in Wonderland featuring stunning pop-ups by Robert Sabuda.

Aslı Tunca and her husband Carl are living and creating in this inspiring building in Galatasaray, Istanbul.

Aslı's background in fashion design and Carl's professional knowledge of sculpting, painting, and restoration of antiques joined forces to create their company based in Istanbul.

Spaces they decorate fascinate people due to their sublime skills and taste for using antiques and designing contemporary furniture and accessories.

This painting belongs to Ismail Acar, a painter who specializes in Ottoman Culture.

One of the favorite pieces of Carl is hand carved wooden garland from 17th century stands next to the chair of their design.

Turkish and Belgian cultures, often visits to Venice, and their open-minded personalities all merge in this space and create a harmonious and charming atmosphere.

Books and files in the chestnut-paneled shelves, which look like taken from an ancient library, are actually their own design. They have been coated with goatskin parchment that they processed themselves and hand labeled on the spine.

When the train arrived to Bergamo, I was still sleeping. I was wishing that the travel took longer because Milan to Bergamo is a really short, hour-long, ride.
But she arrived with her Vespa to pick me up and as soon as I hopped on, the fresh air awakened me immediately.
After buying our bread and newspaper from the cute city center, we arrived at her house in an 20th building.

I took a sneak peek at Aytul's shoe closet while she is away, amongst a mountain of shoes, here are some pairs which caught my eye.

If I had to choose a favorite, it would be these zebra heeled shoes from Louis Vuitton's Spring 2011 collection.

As I swung her sandals across the tangerine tree on the terrace, I could feel the long awaited summer breeze arriving.

She purchased these black boots recently from her New York vacation. They are harmonious with this Turkish Karabag Kilim.

Ismet Dogan is a comtemporary artist who lives in this historical building situated in Beyoglu, Istanbul. The room behind him is where they watch movies and installations and discuss them with other people and the photo above is the entrance of the building.

Besides his natural intelligence, he reads voraciously. Huge library of his own design is a fortress for his most valuable belongings.

In most of his work he utilizes mirrors, mostly to distort and create an illusion, to manipulate reality.

His last exhibition called "All is External: Yerim Seni", offers us figures who try to bite, tear, and cut one another.

Even though removing the doors would be more useful with respect to light and space, he chooses to keep them as they are to respect the original construction of the apartment.

As I am sipping on some coffee in this beautiful historical villa, surrounded by trees, I talk with the owners of the place. Princess Island is where they spend their summers. In this silent part of the island, the only noise is surely their laughs.

This is probably the most interesting plant I have ever seen. All phases of the leaves are very different from one other and in its blossomed state it reminds me of a beautiful fabric with prints.

What I like the most about this house is the faces with different expressions watching you everywhere. Sometimes it is Fornasetti's Lina Cavalieri, sometimes it is babies from Kezban Arca Batibeki painting...

Painting purchased from Far East hangs on the wall temporarily; it stands in for a work by Seda Hepsev, which is being displayed at Istanbul Museum of Modern Art.

The entree with porcelain plates and romantic wallpapers lead me to the living room where I meet blue quilted velvet sofas and various other porcelains alongside other wares.

This house is full of deep and meaningful wares. Charcoal drawings of her friend Leyla Gediz, high school drawings of her mother, her own collages… Furthermore this charcoal drawing of Melis's hair by Leyla Gediz became her wedding invitation card at 2008.

She has a big collection of second hand porcelains. She tries to collect not sets but separate single missing pieces which she thinks makes the pieces more unique and meaningful.

Besides she has been painting porcelains for almost 2 years and these are her first trials of the 'Meissen' motifs.

iPod is one of the most playful cats I have ever seen. He poses on French Louis chair purchased from an antiquarian in Çukurcuma.

While reading a lovely book about Jacqueline Kennedy and the Island Capri sponsored by Tods, 'Un Mito nel Mito - Jacqueline a Capri'.

Her books, porcelains, and her shoes are arguably the first things she would take with her to a deserted island if she had to choose 3 things and 3 things only. Her Manolo Blahniks are her favorite ones--a pair of ephemeral sources of joy.

The individual colors her husband has diligently ripped out of an entire Pantone Catalogue to make them into a 'Pantone Jam' stands tribute to his unending patience in his room.

Nino Mustica is an Italian artist. He has really nice taste and his house is fascinating. A mix of old and new; combination of his works and other designs. Its very enjoyable to pass time while you are in this good spirited house.

Beside this nice ambience, he himself is a really warm person--most likely due to his Sicilian ancestry. So these two reasons and his offer made me stay for lunch. I was very excited for the Sicilian pasta that he would cook.

We had the lunch on this beautiful balcony.

It must be hard to maintain the congruency of such a wide variety of objects but once you do, the end result is perfection. So unique and rich in character...

These old American rulers were so cute and I have Rebbeca's ruler as a gift:)

Katia and Franco's house has one of the best views in all of Naples, with the entire city and the sea within eyeshot of their balcony. Hence they like to invite people over often and enjoy this magnificent view in their company.

'Sophie'

The bowls are collected during their travels, even including one from İstanbul.

They transformed this house into an open space to make exactly this kind of friendly gettogethers possible. They have a open kitchen where they prepared the best Spritz I have ever drank, which is something I normally don't like. The recipe consists of aperol, prosecco, some ice, and some fresh orange slices.

Also completely out of nowhere the neighbors joined us, whose balcony were very close to ours, and shared the homemade pizza they had just cooked. We had an impromptu feast with some impromptu friends and on such a random night it was the pleasentest of surprises!

While I was in Naples we spent 2 of our nights in places they owned beside their house. One of the places is called Trip, where they organize different events every night. While we were there, there was a live concert and we enjoyed some nice aperativo with authentic Napolitan food in the garden. Katia told us that lately she has ben focusing on the design of this place even more then she does with her own house.

Background of the stage that had drawings done by children and window-turned-library were my favorite things in the place.

Antonio Giuseppe Martiniello is the successful architect behind this apartment in an 18th century building in the heart of Naples. It had stayed empty for 90 years before he moved in and then a magical architectural touch by Antonio woke this sleeping beauty up and caught it up to design in terms of modern standards.

Tiles on the floor, hand painted walls, and ceilings of the past mix with the contemporary art and design in this home-studio-gallery.

He likes to play with space and light, which he thinks are the two main elements that define the environment. The current space and the natural light alignment, coupled with the original position of the rooms, readily creates a fabulous atmosphere. You can see the rooms settled side by side.

A sneak peek through the huge windows can make you wonder what's inside. You can think it is a house. But if you give it a try, upon opening the door you will see the magical atmosphere of Ayse Orberks shop in Cukurcuma, Istanbul.

When you enter the place you are awestuck for a moment and find yourself daydreaming. It seems like the house of a person with the finest taste in high ceilinged old buildings with huge windows and old parquets. I would go as far as to say that it appears to be the owner's second home, a place to host friends and spend some quality time. It looks like it was organized meticulously, as if she lived in those quarters full time. A burning fire place, an antic piano, drinks, and fresh fruit treats affirms the feeling that you are paying a visit to a friend in her home.

She likes the showcase various objects, collected only if found in their indigenous resting places.

I knew this place from my high school years since my high school was just few steps further. But I never knew first floor extended all the way to the top floor and opened to a big balcony from which you can see the entire area full of antique and design shops and historical buildings. I think that the black wall and fallen part create a really nice texture.

Pitti Taste was the reason why I decided to make a trip to Florence (the photos of this trip are coming soon). The final tally was a group of 8 gourmet souls meeting for the delicious food of Florence. Some of them were also interested in the fair but primarily it was the "Fiorentina Steak" that brought us together. We had reservations at the Trattoria Gobbi 13. As soon as I entered the place, I thought it was the cutest trattoria that I had ever been to. The sharp decorations, the ceramic plates, and the gloomy atmosphere created with the candles formed my first impressions.

We started with the appetizers: buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, pecorino, and gorgonzola cheese were the ones I remember. Then arrived 'rigatoni', Gobbi's famous speciality, to pretty much every single table. I don't think I noticed a single neighboring table that did not have rigatonis on it.

Fiorentina Steak was the pinnacle of our dining experience which I can only describe as "phenomenal".

The next day we decided to go there for a second time and strengthen our memories of the scrumptious food. We started with buffalo mozzarellas again. Then I had myself some onion soup while one of my friends had the "Tortellini in Brodo".

I can say that Gobbi 13 was a cozy place not only because of the decoration and the near-magical atmosphere, but also because of the employees who were incredibly nice and warm.

It hasn't been too long since she moved back to Istanbul from Italy, where she first graduated from Marangoni and then worked as a designer at Alberta Ferretti. She quickly became one of the most well-known and successful designers in Turkey. I can safely say that she is one of the few Turkish designers whose collections I anticipate with the utmost curiosity.

While everyone usually raves about her success in design, her genuine personality also doesn't go unnoticed. She passionately talks to me about her design process in fine detail.

This jacket, that is her own design, is one of the crown pieces of her past collection.Alongside her amusing designs, she has a real good taste of style and a closet full of unique and rare pieces of clothing, vintage accessories, and garments spanning almost every worthy brands. Her hat collection is also a sight to behold.

I guess this is the flag that is used in Beefeater Collection's shooting which she collaborated with Jonathan Saunders.

'Arabeschi di Latte' has done a cooking workshop at the Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, as a part of Uovo Performing Arts Festival in which the participants prepared food recipes from the epoch of the Italian unification, but without the necessary tools. The tools had to be invented, created, assembled with discarded materials, practicing the art of making do, joy and torment of Italian society.

Preparation process was quite funny. Seeing all the objects that had nothing to do with culinary was making a quite quirky impression. All the Pisa Tower sculptures were being used to press the basil for the preparation of pesto.

These were the inventions of the day. One of them was invented to mix the eggs and the other one to give a form to the pasta.

Even though we graduated from the same high school, I didn't know her too well. However I always found her tasteful because of the way she went through life, having a deep understanding of design, food, and traveling. These were the things that started our conversations and our friendship. A collection that had been accumulating for nearly 40 years: a collection of more than 150 radios, some hi-fi receivers, and speakers and a special hi-fi room.

We listened some music from James Taylor. Once you enter, you don't wanna leave the room!

While she was in New York, she collected carts and napkins whose graphic design she liked.

The bike strap on the wall is designed by NL Architects for Droog. A good way to store things like books, magazines, and toys. By the way I have to say that I love Droog and their Chest of Drawers designed by Tejo Remy which is one of the Droog classics.

After a long time, I was back in Istanbul for 2 weeks. So I tried to enjoy Istanbul as much as I could and go to places I like the most on my last days. I really enjoyed my last sunday in Bebek. The weather was very nice so we sat outside and while one of us was having breakfast, others were enjoying some wine. Yasmin having her breakfast, Menemen (turkish dish which includes eggs, onions, tomatoes and green peppers ..)and turkish tea.

The owner of the Studio Marije Vogelzang is a small company with big ideas. They work on restaurant concepts as well as long-term medical projects for hospitals. They do social projects like workshops to educate and inspire but they also work for the food industry.They design art installations and create novel food rituals. Please look at their works on their website—they are amazing.

The place is not really in the center. It is at a park little far out. However this gives them the opportunity to enjoy the unadulterated nature of the dining experience as the cocktails served at the restaurant with edible flowers.

Alexander Åhnebrink runs his own design practice Aå in Milan, he is also Art Director at Rossia Magazine .

The blue ceramics are found and picked up from the street.

This is a book which I found very interesting. It is a set of 2D objects he has picked up from the street. The objects vary from used tickets and children's drawings to ripped-up photos and vinyl records. He started off by picking something up that interested him once in a while, but later it turned into a search to always expand the collection.

The photo is enlarged version of the photo from the id which he found on the street. So beautiful....

Once a location for the Faema coffee machine factory, Via Ventura has now turned in to a street full of art galleries, architectural and design studios and private loft apartments. He moved here about 5 years ago and although it is little bit far away from the center of Milan, he finds it hard imagining living somewhere else.

Last Friday was "Girl's Best Friend" night in the Dolce & Gabbana store at Via Spiga. The patrons were having their tarot cards read and make-ups done while enjoying some beats by DJ Natasha Slater. The ladies dressed up in Dolce&Gabbana leopards and laces were sipping Martini Golds as they were getting to know the Summer 2011 collection better. The store had transformed into a glamorous dream world that no girl would ever want to leave.

Marco is Genoan, together with his partner, they wanted to open somewhere you could find true Genoan homemade food, and spend quality time with friends and family.

There are really nice interior design solutions , he said that he took inspiration from his travels. Also there are really nice details realted to his hometown;Genova. The posters on the wall belonged to famous Genoan people. On the old tv one of the Gilberto Govi’s films is playing, he is a famous italian actor. Marie Claire Turkey and Louis Vuitton’s collaboration for the november issue starred Saadet Işıl Aksoy in Louis Vuitton’s fall 2010 collection. The lead photographer was Tamer Yilmaz. I held the position of assistant to the fashion editor.While I was rushing from one place to another, I spent my limited free time taking photos of the backstage.

We left our hotel Palazzina Grassi (Venice) early morning.

Saadet, the talented new actress, suits the collection perfectly.

Fiesso D’Artico, Louis Vuittons shoe factory, where the shoot took place, brings together the understanding of traditional craftsmanship, latest technology and contemporary art. The architect Jean-Marc Sansdraolini took inspiration from the magical shoe box while designing the building. Apart from all the artworks scattered around the factory, the place also consists of a gallery full of shoe-themed works by Andy Warhol to other important artists.

Di Viole di Liquirizia.. Everytime I am on my way to Brera I always see this small bakery and stare from the door to see what they bake. However this time when I saw the small cupcakes, I told myself that the time had come and entered at once.

Lucia, after studying economics and managment, suddenly decides to follow her dream and risks her career. She joins forces with her mom, whom also has a love for cooking, and opens this sweet bakery.

This time I had the opportunity to photograph Murat Turkili whom we know of his creativity and succes as the creative director of Beymen. He has had a touch on everything from the decorations to the furniture from a design standpoint. Here are some photos of his apartment.

When we stepped foot into the ground floor in the historical building in Macka, the wide open floor-to-ceiling windows gave us the impression that the lobby flowed into the beautiful yard.

One year old Harvey is as much a special dog as he is naughty. He himself has participated in the design process of the house and has modified the occasional texture as he saw fit.

Yarbasan estates in Bodrum has been brought to life with principles of traditional architeture, traditional materials, and traditional production, in order to create a texture of regional village life in the hopes of becoming an example that would further such architeture, thanks to the project’s partners Arif Obdan and my father Cuneyt Tanman.

All the stones used for building the houses, woodcarves, tile and glass mosaics, ceramics and stained glasses are all handmade and they are produced during the construction in the on-site workshops of the yarbasan estates.

While I was walking in Corso Garibaldi, Milano, this cute flower shop caught my attention immediately.
I stared at this beautiful scene for a couple of minutes and took some photos.

My youngest cousin’s interests and style always intrigued me.He can be seen tackling math problems in books bigger than him, elevating great distances in tall hotel elevators and wandering in subway stations (He knows the entire subway system by heart).

Another one of his hobbies is playing nintendo games.

The NY sticker on the wall isn’t a coincidence; since he is a big fan of “heights” the top of the Empire State and Eiffel Tower are his favorite spots.He is never satisfied unless he gets the top floor in the hotels he stays in.

Dilara has just begun her fashion degree course in Central Saint Martins which she thinks that it is a place full of creativity and competition.She observes that there are many people who are just showing up their clothes and doing nothing except competing with each other with their styles like they pop out from streetsytle blog beside the very talented ones.

I think she is one of the talented ones. I really liked her work the ugly man head, in which she used fimo clay.

Her rich closet gave us ability to play with the styling and we had so many different looks during the photoshoot. She has wide collection of sunglasses but I think her beautiful face shoudn’t be covered with them all the time.

She really loves dolls that are beautifully dressed and have bodies like Barbie. She tries to buy as much as she can when she travells because she can hardly find limited editions and collector ones. Some barbies whic are being sold in Harrods has already captured her eye but she has to compromise little bit from her budget to buy them.

After meeting Pascal by chance , we arranged to meet him the very next day. Before meeting him, I neither had heard of his blog fashionbitsandbobs, which made him famous, nor knew he was one of the prized guests of the Istanbul Fashion Week along with names like Anna Piaggi and Kate Lanphear. My sister and I thought that having breakfast at Bosphorus might be a good idea on his last day so we took him to Aşşk Café, followed by a little walk by the sea. After a couple of hours It was time to say goodbye but we weren’t ready to leave him just yet. We wanted to make the most of our brief time together so we went to his hotel to take his luggage, then took him to the airport, and then we finally said our farewells to sweet Pascal when we absolutely had to. He was such a nice person and I miss him already. Like he said: “it was a really, really beautiful coincidence meeting you”, Pascal…

Although he is really busy at work, as a Louis Vuitton Italia’s Press Manager, Giuseppe is extremely glad to be a part of such a prestigious well-known brand , being next to unbelievebly talented people and being able to travel a lot. He thinks that his job requires professionalism and from my perspective, one of the factors behind his success in his work is being a great person . He believes that everyone can be succesfull when he or she finds a right thing to do and give all the energy for it…

When I first entered Giuseppe’s house after a sweet welcome, the first thing I noticed was the Lv shoes standing in the middle of the room. I believe that most shoes with great designs deserve more than standing inside the boxes and for me ,seeing them outside of the usual functions meant admiring the designer geniunly and also it is a for great visual feast me.
